During a time when many are in need, STIR is supporting Oak City Cares, a Raleigh-based charity, by donating a portion of their proceeds during the month of November. Oak City Cares is Wake County’s first multi-services hub for connecting individuals and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness to critical services. When STIR opened last year, it partnered with Oak City Cares to raise money for its mission.

“We are so grateful for our ongoing partnership with STIR and for their continued focus on providing much needed support in our community.  Over the past six months we’ve seen an increased need in our community for our services and we know that the funds raised by STIR in November will help us assist our Wake County neighbors in need,” says Oak City Cares Executive Director, Kathy Johnson.

SquareOne Holding Company, the Chattanooga-based hospitality group that owns and operates several restaurants and breweries throughout the region including STIR Raleigh, has established a charitable foundation to support their team members who have suffered traumatic events.

Through The SquareUp Foundation, STIR Raleigh’s sister restaurants have partnered with charitable organizations in each city where they operate. In Chattanooga, STIR and State of Confusion have partnered with the Chattanooga Community Kitchen. State of Confusion additionally contributes to Reflection Riding Arboretum & Nature Center. Balter Beerworks in Knoxville supports Second Harvest and Strawberry Alley in Clarksville combats pediatric illness by supporting Camp Rainbow. In North Carolina, STIR Raleigh supports Oak City Cares; STIR Charlotte raises funds for the Isabella Santos Foundation. Carolina Brewery, based in the Research Triangle, partners with the local Susan G. Komen chapter.

"The root of the hospitality industry should be just that; a welcoming and generous environment that thrives on supporting others," said Allen Corey, CEO of SquareOne Holding. "SquareOne believes hospitality should extend far beyond our dining tables and into the communities in which we live. The SquareUp Foundation is doing just that."

SquareUp will also assist employees who require financial support during times of economic hardship through the HOPE (Helping Our People in Emergencies) Fund. Donations ranging between $500 and $1,000 to help employees facing natural disasters, illness, injury or other emergencies.

About Oak City Cares

Oak City Cares envisions a community where all people have access to stable housing and their human dignity, worth, and rights are respected; where the length of time a person experiences homelessness is minimized by removing the barriers that hinder them from accessing essential and coordinated services; and where community collaborations with government, non-profit and faith-based organizations strengthen the pathways to these life rebuilding services.
