Friends of Tabletop: Meet Donte from Plated Kulture

Friends of Tabletop is a place where we share who we love working with. This can range from a client, influencer/blogger, or special someone who simply means a lot to the Tabletop Team. Colleagues and friends who we’ve met throughout our journey with Tabletop Media Group make us a part of who we are.

For our January Friends of Tabletop, meet Donte from Plated Kulture!

Tell us about Plated Kulture.

I started my brand, Vivid Kulture, 6 years ago, and with Vivid Kulture I provide videography and photography services. Because I grew up in a family of cooks, and I love to cook myself as well as try different restaurants and other types of cuisine, I figured, why not take what I do and apply that to food, which is how Plated Kulture was born, under the umbrella of Vivid Kulture. Plated Kulture is a food vlog based out of North Carolina. Started in 2021, I decided to use my skills in videography and photography and apply that to highlight the food that I cook, and to highlight restaurants, chefs, and anything food related. I take my love for all things food, and I share my experience through the lens of my camera. Plated Kulture is also used promote local businesses and local food artists so that their brands can grow as well when their product is shown in the high quality, Plated Kulture way.

What is your least favorite food?

Liver Pudding.

What about favorite food?

Ribeye Steak and Creamy Cheese Grits.

Coffee order?

My Coffee order was born at a place called Something’s Brewing Too in Raeford NC. The owner, named Sandra, asked me what I liked to taste in coffee, I told her, and she created it! I then took it upon myself to name the drink. Now everytime I go there, I order “The Sandra” and they know exactly what I want! The Sandra is a cold coffee, and it consists of, caramel, brown sugar cinnamon, maple, almond milk, coffee ice cubes, with a hit of cinnamon on top.

What is one of your unpopular opinions?

Grape Jelly goes in Spaghetti. When I make spaghetti, I make my sauce from myself, and I do add grape jelly in my sauce. I stand on my opinion that grape jelly pairs very well with any type of marinara or meat sauce, whether is spaghetti, lasagna, or any type of Italian dish that requires marinara or meat sauce.

Where is your favorite place to eat in The Triangle?

That’s a tricky one. There are many great choices, but if I had to pick, I’d have to say Southern Craft Sandwiches, and Tony Roma’s in Durham.

Do you have a favorite story about how you got to where you are in your career?

That would be too much to type. I will try to do the cliff notes version. I got to where I am by being in a place of desperation and depression. I have a pretty complex story as to how I got started in my career, but I go to where I am today because of the right connections, always under promising and over delivering, and using my everyday life struggles to fuel my drive to create and continue to operate in my passion.

If you could redo one thing in regard to your social influencer career what would it be?

I would have made more time to learn the ins and outs of social media. Algorithms, posting techniques, etc. I believe my social media pages would be much bigger if I had the knowledge of how to successfully execute social media 6 years ago when I started my first social media business page.

What’s the most useful lesson you’ve learned from being a social influencer?

FOLLOW YOUR INSIGHTS! When I learned how to read my insights and post according to them, my social media and my client reach has increased significantly in 2022 compared to the years before.
