Carrboro, NC’s beloved pizza restaurant Coronato is celebrating their 1st birthday on Saturday, August 22 in partnership with TABLE. On the day of the momentous occasion, Coronato will be donating 100% of proceeds to TABLE to help secure food for children who need healthy and consistent food during the challenging virtual school semesters ahead.

Chef-owner Teddy Diggs and Coronato have partnered with TABLE well before the restaurant’s official opening, and are excited to continue collaborating with the non-profit for years to come. TABLE’s Executive Director Ashton Tippins says, "We're so grateful for the support from Teddy and the Coronato team. With children learning from home through January, TABLE will need to continue delivering food directly to the homes of the kids we serve.” Currently, TABLE is feeding 670 children, delivering more than 6,700 meals and snacks every week along with fresh produce. The funds Coronato raises during their 1st anniversary celebration will go directly to helping TABLE purchase food to fill the bags provided each week.

In addition to raising funds for TABLE, Coronato is asking diners to contribute non-perishable donations. If customers bring four items from TABLE’s wish list, they will receive a complimentary Coronato tiramisu.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Coronato birthday party without menu surprises! Chef-owner Diggs and his team are excited to feature favorites that day including: Fava Bean Falafel, Pasta Fritti, and Diggs’ luscious Focaccia Bread. Coronato is also thrilled to announce new permanent menu items in celebration of year two:

Eggplant Meatballs

As Diggs has devoted much of Coronato’s menu to vegetarian-friendly offerings, his (not) meatballs follow suit. Just as the name suggests, these meatballs are made with rich roasted eggplant instead of animal meat.

Roman Pan Pizzas

Coronato’s pizza is well-known for being thin and crispy, however, pizza in Rome comes in all shapes and sizes. To kick off year number two, Coronato will begin offering a second style of Roman pizza for takeout: Pan Pizza. These pizzas are baked in sheet pans with a thick and puffy dough that yields a crisp bottom and a light, airy interior full of bubbles.

Coronato will offer three varieties of the pan pizza:

  • Raw crushed tomato sauce base with a three-cheese blend

  • Raw crushed tomato sauce base with pepperoni

  • White pizza with roasted onions and mushrooms

Diggs will also have pan pizza specials including his fan-favorite potato pizza. Each pan pizza serves 2 to 3 people and only a limited amount will be made each day.

Celebration Logistics

On August 22, Coronato will be open earlier for takeout and curbside pick-up, 12pm to 9pm. The restaurant will have limited seating on their sidewalk patio as well as availability for a small group to rent the restaurant that day. For interest in reserving a sidewalk table or the restaurant space, contact Diggs at tdiggs@coronatopizza.com.

To join in on the celebration, Coronato’s neighbor, Craftboro will also be donating all of their proceeds on August 22 from their Tessera Golden Ale sales to TABLE, the collaborative beer the Coronato and Craftboro teams created in February 2020.

Coronato expects to be busy throughout the day and is encouraging pre-orders, which can be done by clicking the “online ordering” tab on their website at www.coronatopizza.com.
