Garbage Cookies

Makes 18-24 cookies

Cookie Dough

1 ¼ cups sugar

1 ¼ cups brown sugar

1 stick of butter

3 eggs

1 Tbs. vanilla

3 cups flour

1 cup oatmeal

½ Tbs. baking soda

¼ t. salt

Garbage Mix

Kids can choose whatever candy, chocolate, etc., they want to add to the dough as long as the mix equals 3 ½ c of fun! Here is Cafe Root Cellar’s recommendation:

1 cup chocolate chips

1 cup white chocolate

¼ cup M&Ms

¼ cup coconut

¼ cup peanuts or other preferred nuts

¼ cup butterscotch chips

¼ cup sprinkles

¼ cup pretzels or potato chips

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Using a mixer with a paddle attachment, cream the butter and sugars together for about 5 minutes or until the mixture takes on a light beige coloring.

Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.

Stir in the vanilla.

Reduce speed to low.

Add dry ingredients and garbage mix until just combined.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper (a nonstick baking mat can also be used).

Scoop cookies onto the baking sheet using a medium-sized ice cream scoop (a larger or smaller scoop can also be used but cooking time will need to be adjusted).

Leave an inch between cookies.

Bake until golden brown but soft or about 12-18 minutes.

Transfer backing sheet to a wire rack or spot away from the oven to cool.

Any remaining cookie dough can be scooped and kept in an air tight container in the fridge for 1 week.
