Postino Winecafé Uncorks Its Second North Carolina Location, To Open In Village District On July 29
RALEIGH, NC – July 29, 2024 – Postino Wine Cafe is excited to announce the grand opening of its newest location in Raleigh's historic Village District on Monday, July 29. Located in the iconic space once occupied by the beloved Carolina Cafe & Bakery, they are set to become a favorite spot for office happy hours, romantic date nights, celebratory dinners, or a mid-week snack. With a focus on how people dine today, Postino also offers a robust to-go, delivery, and catering experience, suitable for any size or venue.
As part of the grand opening festivities, the first 100 tables seated at Postino on opening day will receive a $50 gift card to be used on a future visit, as well as a round of bubbles for the table.
Situated in Regency's Village District, a shopping center that has been a cornerstone of the Raleigh community for 75 years, Postino embraces the rich history of this location. Established in 1949, Village District holds the distinction of being the first shopping center built between Washington, D.C., and Atlanta, and was home to "The Village Subway" during the 1970’s, an underground entertainment hub modeled after Atlanta’s Underground. This vibrant space featured restaurants, clubs, boutiques, and more, becoming a hot spot for music and nightlife until its closure in the early 1980s.
“We are thrilled to open our doors in such a historic and dynamic area,” said Lauren Bailey, Upward Projects’ CEO and co-founder, the restaurant group behind Postino. “Taking over this well-known building allows us to present a pure reflection of the Postino ethos to the Raleigh community. There is so much to love about Raleigh, and we’re so excited to bring our welcoming hospitality to the community.”
Known for creating funky, sophisticated, and vintage-inspired spaces, Postino Village District is designed with the guest experience in mind. Each Postino location’s unique design pays homage to its local community and the history of the building. The Art Wall at Postino Village District features over 400 underground music magazine covers from the 1980s, wheat-pasted to create a striking and vibrant visual. Additionally, a commissioned mural by Postino celebrates musical acts that played in the Village Subway, such as Flock of Seagulls, Iggy Pop & the Stooges, and the Go-Go’s. The cafe's vintage furniture and decor were sourced from local vintage shops Father & Son Antique and Urbage in downtown Raleigh.
A cornerstone of Postino's brand is giving back to the communities in which it serves. During the grand opening events, Postino Wine Cafe will donate $1 from every bruschetta board sold to KidLab, a local charity. This effort will support KidLab's mission to foster creativity and innovation in the local youth community. Additionally, KidLab will be on-site at Postino on Saturday, August 10 from 11 am - 1 pm, allowing children and their grownups an opportunity to fuel their curiosity by tinkering, making art and learning through creative play.
Postino’s menu changes seasonally but always includes a bountiful selection of must-have bruschetta, charcuterie boards, from-scratch soups, fresh salads, and panini sandwiches. For shareable bites, the menu features “Snacky Things,” such as crispy cauliflower, butter poached shrimp scampi, and sweet potato wedges. The 12 delectable bruschetta offerings include brie & apple with fig spread, smoked salmon with pesto, and sweet n’ spicy pepper jam with goat cheese. Other guest favorites include the Brussels Sprouts Salad, Nine Iron Panini, and The Bounty Board.
Famous for its award-winning wine program, Postino serves an ever-changing selection of boutique wines handpicked by VP of Beverage and advanced sommelier Brent Karlicek from all over the world, including more than 30 varietals by the glass and exclusive winemaker collaborations. Alongside, Postino offers beers on tap, including selections from local breweries, and a lineup of classic cocktails such as the Aperol Spritz, Smoked Old Fashioned, and Espresso Martini.
Postino Village District is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 12 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays. Every Monday and Tuesday, guests can order up Postino’s iconic “Board & Bottle,” where a bottle of wine and bruschetta board can be enjoyed for just $25.
