Why You Should Be Using TikTok to Grow Your Platform & Business

Easy to Grow

TikTok is taking over the social media realm. With more than 656 million downloads, TikTok was the most downloaded app of 2021. There are over 1 billion monthly active users. What does this mean? People are in need of content to consume and there cannot be too many creators on the app (AKA it cannot get oversaturated). Many creators have found success growing through TikTok as opposed to other platforms. With a simple, yet effective strategy, it is easy to grow your brand in a short amount of time.

There are 3 key elements to being successful!

  • Relevance

  • Consistency

  • Sound Choice

Relevance

To understand TikTok, you must be using the platform. The audience is unique and you will not understand how it works if you are not familiar with it. We recommend engaging with content you or your brand find entertaining and educational. Be careful though, you might get addicted!

When you are using the platform, pay attention to what is trending. Are there a certain sounds (we will get to that in a minute), dances, tutorials, routines, etc., that are new and up and coming? Many products sell out immediately because they were trending. These trends also go pretty quick, so it is important to stay on top of them.

Hashtags are another element of TikTok that are unique. Different from Instagram, TikTok shows users what hashtags are trending when you go to upload a video. It is also not necessary to bombard users with a billion hashtags. Pick a few per video. A good rule of thumb could be:

  • #fyp

  • A trending hashtag. (Ex. #Totinos425) → recommended for use (36.6M users)

  • A relevant hashtag to your content. (Ex. #onlineboutique)

  • A local hashtag, so people know where you are based. (Ex. #raleighnc)

You can always play around with these hashtags and add more or less depending on what you find works for you. Another FYI, a popular hashtag is #fyp. What does that mean? FYP stands for “For You Page”. The #fyp on TikTok is your personalized feed where videos are recommended to you. Many people add it to their captions. Does it make your video go viral? We don't know if anyone has the answer, but it doesn't hurt!

Consistency

The algorithm also likes consistency. Many creators post 5-10 videos a day to grow. If that is a lot for you, try creating 1 quality video a day that is relevant. You will grow if you remain consistent.

Sounds

We could sit here and talk about TikTok sounds all day, but we will keep it short and sweet. TikTok sounds help videos go viral. They only trend for a few days/1 week. It is important to use a sound when it is up and coming to get on the trend early. Another note to keep in mind is that many of the sounds can be explicit, but the TikTok platform is extremely different from Instagram and Facebook. It is not damaging to your brand to use these and people connect to your brand on a deeper level and find you trendy!

Successful Algorithm

You may have noticed that your Instagram posts aren't getting as many likes as they used to. A lot of this has to do with Instagram’s algorithm. Lucky for you, TikTok’s algorithm is incredibly successful. It has huge capabilities to boost your content to the right user. They keep up with how long you watched the video, if you engaged, did you tap the profile, what hashtags were used, etc. All of this is taken into account to recommend similar videos to you.

Promotes Success Among Other Platforms

TikTok is one of the few apps that encourages users to promote their other platforms. They have an Instagram and YouTube button that you can incorporate into your bio to allow for users to easily tap to be directed away from TikTok. So be sure to add them! You can also add a link to your Linktree into your bio. This is also a good time to mention that it is good to redirect people to your platforms in your videos. Don’t give away all of your secrets. Mention “Head to my IG to see more.” or “Link is in my bio to purchase”. Always leave the audience wanting more and give them a place to find it!

You are now on your way to keeping up with the kids of Gen Z and growing your brand on a different platform!
