Each summer we head out to the Blue Ridge Mountains to escape the heat at our family cabin! We spend our days taking in the mountain views and tubing down the New River in Todd. We love to stop at our favorite NC wineries along the way, hike to waterfalls, and take a relaxing sauna.

Since I can remember, my family has always had beach week in Surf City/Topsail Beach, NC. I am a beach girl through and through, so I spend most time soaking up the sun! My favorite part of each day is the turkey and cheese sandwich right on the beach, followed by watching the sunsets. Nothing beats the trips to local ice cream and fish markets, but most importantly, the simple joy of relaxing with family in our favorite summer spot.

We love exploring NC Beaches and we spent some wonderful time at Bald Head Island this summer. It had been almost 15 years since we had last visited the island. It’s a pretty special place and you get a true break from all the daily chaos and can relax and enjoy nature quietly here. No cars on the island, a fun ferry ride over to the island, and the most star filled nights, including some incredible lightning storms! Beautiful breezy beach days make for a wonderful getaway.

We love to go to Wilmington, NC. It’s only 2hrs away from home and the downtown is really cute with lots of local shops. We can’t resist stopping for ice cream at Kilwins, the smell of the freshly made waffle cones and chocolate pulls us in every time. Wilmington is also the home of Indochine Restaurant, a fun place that Zach and I love when we crave Asian food.

While I love the mountains and North Carolina coast as much as the next girl, my quintessential summer destination is a trip to my hometown on Lake Norman! Nothing beats grabbing an iced coffee and walking around Davidson College’s campus, eating some fresh watermelon & sandwiches on the boat, and watching Fourth of July fireworks on the water.

Lewis Foreman - Creative Director

Since my son was born, our family has been in search of a new tradition. We've explored a different NC beach each season for the past 5 years, and they each have something special to offer, but we recently found a new favorite in Carolina Beach. We loved exploring Freeman Park, eating countless ice cream cones at the local tiki bar on the beach, grabbing mahi tacos + margaritas at Nollie's, and thrifting at Island Cottage. If you visit, be sure to grab a crab pot from Cape Fear Boil Company. Bonus points that CB is dog-friendly, too!

I love to get away to the NC mountains in the summer.   Less heat & less humidity is the way to go and West Jefferson is one of my favorite towns.  Great parks and trails, tasty restaurants and Ashe County Cheese is located right downtown.  Yes, you can watch cheese being made!
