There is truly so much that I love about the fall season! I am a big "traditions" gal so my family has several things we like to check off our fall bucket list each year. I'd have to say my top two favorite activities are picking out pumpkins for our front porch and attending the NC State Fair.

My favorite thing this time of year is all the spookiness that October brings. I have to admit that I'm never in a rush for cold weather to arrive... but Halloween softens the blow! Our small town of Warrenton, NC always celebrates the season to the fullest with a fright night or harvest festival and plenty of trick-or-treating.

Our family loves to head outdoors in the fall when the temperatures drop! You'll usually find us hiking along the Eno River in the Triangle, or heading out west to pick apples at Perry Lowe Orchards in Moravian Falls. I'm also a big fan of winter squash and other fall produce and head to the farmers market every weekend to see what's in stock!

Though fall isn’t my favorite season, one thing I always look forward to is hockey season being back...I'm a huge Caniac! Alongside that, I love spending my weekends at football tailgates (Go Pack!) and cooking up some delicious fall-inspired eats. One of the top things on my bucket list is to go apple picking!

There’s a part of me that comes back to life every October when it finally gets chilly & my favorite fall tradition comes around — the NC State Fair! I’ve gone almost every year for the last 7 years and it’s easily become my favorite annual girl’s night activities to get my friends together and eat our way through the fairgrounds. I’m always excited to scout out the new fair foods, walk through the competition tents, grab a scoop of Howling Cow’s new ice cream flavor, and watch the fireworks on the way out!

As someone from upstate New York, I live for cooler temperatures, which is why fall is my favorite season, especially after North Carolina’s summer heat. One of my favorite fall traditions with my husband is exploring new trails in the Triangle. Before each hike, we stop by a local coffee shop to try their new fall drink menu. One of our favorites is Common Grounds in downtown Apex. Nothing beats a cozy fall drink before hitting the trails and enjoying the crisp autumn air.

My favorite fall activity is planting trees! I've been doing 2 types of tree planting - first I've been removing non-native, invasive trees like Bradford Pears and replacing them with native NC trees, like paw paws, river birches and swamp oaks. Second I've been planting heirloom apple trees. With names like Blacktwig and Aunt Rachel's Favorite, I've got a variety of red, green and yellow apples - some sweet & some tart.
