North Carolina SweetPotato Commission Announces #TeachSweet Social Media Contest For Educators

The North Carolina SweetPotato Commission is hosting #TeachSweet, a social media contest running from January 15-March 15, 2021 for teachers and homeschool parents all across the country. Those who participate will have a chance to win a $500 classroom shopping spree and a $500 cash prize by teaching about sweetpotatoes.

The North Carolina SweetPotato Commission collaborated with North Carolina Ag in the Classroom to develop lesson plans featuring sweetpotatoes for grades K-12, including a section focusing on Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS). The curriculum includes lesson plans in math, science, critical thinking and comprehension, life skills and so much more. The #TeachSweet contest is an opportunity for educators to discover free resources right at their fingertips. The curriculum was written for elementary, middle and high school students and each lesson meets standards set forth by the US Department of Education.

The #TeachSweet contest rules for educators are as follows:

1. Visit https://ncsweetpotatoes.com/curriculum/ and pick a lesson plan appropriate for your student(s).

2. Use the lesson plan and take a photo or video of you implementing an aspect of the curriculum (i.e. student project of sweetpotatoes growing in the classroom or at home, students looking at sweetpotatoes under a microscope to understand cell structure, and more - you be the judge of what works best for your class and students).

3. Post the photo or video to your Instagram, Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #TeachSweet and tagging the NC SweetPotato Commission at @sweet_taters on Twitter and @ncsweetpotatoes on Facebook and Instagram. Your post must be public for you to be entered to win!

4. Be sure to also check out the NC SweetPotato Commission's custom GIF options by searching NCSPC or #TeachSweet on Instagram and Facebook Stories under the "GIF" options.

5. Sit back and wait for the winner to be announced!

The last day for educators to enter the #TeachSweet contest is March 15, 2021 and the winner will be announced in late March 2021.
