Friends of Tabletop: Meet Sisters and Food Bloggers, Sujung & Juyoung Shin!

Friends of Tabletop is a place where we share who we love working with. This can range from a client, influencer/blogger, or special someone who simply means a lot to the Tabletop Team. Colleagues and friends who we’ve met throughout our journey with Tabletop Media Group make us apart of who we are.

This month, we’re featuring sisters and fellow food bloggers, Sujung Shin from Sujung Chronicles and Juyoung Shin from Better with Ju! They are both food and lifestyle bloggers who cover the Triangle area and beyond. Check out our fun Q&A with them both!

Why do you write about food + Triangle area happenings?

Sujung: I love food, photography, and writing so combining three of my favorite things gave me the perfect creative outlook.

Juyoung: I love food and I love supporting local businesses! I also love talking about both so Better with Ju is a perfect platform for me to talk about what I love.

What are you currently reading?

Sujung: I have been obsessed with audiobooks! I am listening to a few books right now! The Alchemist, Naturally Tan, Such a Fun Age, and All the Light We Cannot See.

Juyoung: Just started The Duke and I, the first book of the Bridgerton series! I loved the Netflix show and I am excited to get into the book series too.

What's your favorite ice cream flavor?

Sujung: Ube from SugarKoi!

Juyoung: Coffee, hands down! I love the Vietnamese Coffee ice cream from The Parlour.

What is your least favorite food?

Sujung: Stinky cheeses!

Juyoung: Fatty meat. I believe fat should just melt in your mouth, and I detest chewing on tough fat—I just cut it off the meat.

What about favorite food?

Sujung: It's a tie between kimchi pancakes and tom yum talay from Koon Nine!

Juyoung: I can’t pick one favorite but I love all salty and cheesy carbs!

Bar order? If you don't drink, what's your coffee order?

Sujung: I usually go for anything sweet and fruity! I really liked the Paloma Battle series at Tonbo Ramen last year.

Juyoung: Anything fruity! If you’ve been to Tate’s in downtown Winston-Salem, their blackberry julep is right up my alley. My coffee order is a small black coffee.

If you could redo one thing in regards to your blogging / social influencer career what would it be?

Sujung: I work a full-time job, go to school part-time, and do blogging on top of everything so planning and time management have been crucial! It took me at least a year to figure out how to juggle everything so I would definitely say planning ahead, especially for creating and posting content.

Juyoung: I wish I had set better boundaries from the beginning, both with fellow bloggers and business owners. For the first couple years of blogging, I kind of thought that the food community was all unicorns and rainbows—remember, nothing in life is! You deserve respect and credit for your work, and you should never feel guilty asking for it.

What's the most useful lesson you've learned from being a food blogger?

Sujung: That I am making a difference in our community! Although it is so easy to get caught up in the number of followers and likes, it is more important to me to highlight small businesses and help them in any way that I can. Stronger together!

Juyoung: That you can make friends from the Internet! I’ve met so many incredible people through blogging, and I am thankful to have had this avenue to make friendships post-college.

Make sure you’re following along with Sujung and Juyoung on social media @sujungchronicles and @betterwithju!
