Celebrate National Book Lovers Day on August 9th with the #TabletopTeam!
Books have a way of helping us grow, allowing us to escape to another world, or teaching us how to cook! If you're a book-lover like the #TabletopTeam, then sit back and enjoy this blog post about some of our favorites. We're celebrating National Book Lovers Day all day long this August 9th!
Kristen Baughman - Founder - BASIC BLACK: The Essential Guide for Getting Ahead at Work (and in Life) by Cathie Black
“I read Cathie Black's book about a year after graduating with my master's degree from NC State University. I had no 'real' idea what I wanted to do with my life, other than the fact I loved the food and agriculture space. I felt as if Cathie was speaking directly to me while I was reading this book. She motivated me to have great perseverance and to be a strong career woman. One of the biggest lessons I learned from her book is, 'don't take rejection personally.' If you are going to grow professionally, there will be times where things don't go your way in business. Don't let this impact you personally and keep chugging along. Cathie was able to navigate the challenges of the media space while remaining a fearless leader, which is what I strive to be for Tabletop Media Group.” - Kristen

Zayne Taber - Business Developer - Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki
“This book is the first book I read right after graduating high school, and being unsure of where to go next, this book got me thinking in a whole new direction and sparked my entrepreneurial endeavors. I grew up poor and this book opened a new world to me and a new way of thinking. Robert Kiyosaki has a whole series of books that have given me the fundamentals that I still use in business and investing today.” - Zayne

Stacey Sprenz - Photographer - Reading Lolita in Tehran: A Memoir in Books by Azar Nafisi
“I love non-fiction. Real life is often more fascinating and poignant than fiction. This book took me through a range of emotions and introduced me to the struggle that these women went through to do something (read, gather together, wear makeup, etc) that I take for granted. It's one of those books that gives life perspective.” - Stacey

Quinn Carlton - Social Media Manager - ANY book by Author Jude Deveraux
“I am polar opposite of Stacey and love everything fiction! Ever since I was a little girl, I have always had a huge imagination so I adore escaping to another world and getting in the minds of characters. I am also a hopeless romantic and boy does Jude Deveraux tell a good love story. P.S These are the cheesy love novels that you can buy at the grocery store for 50 cents so that’s not bad either!” - Quinn

Jorden Yeargan - Social Media Manager - Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
“With its transcendentalist undertones I believe this book instilled in me the importance of kindness and community. I also related to the character Jo and admired her for having the courage to be herself and go after her dreams.” - Jorden

Amanda Morris - Graphic Designer - Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle
"This has been my son’s favorite book for years, and it’s become mine too. It’s a cute, fun story with an important lesson about the importance of friendship the way we should treat others. I never would’ve predicted that my favorite book would be children’s board book, but I’ve read it almost every day for the last five years, and it never gets old. Plus you get to make sounds effects!" - Amanda

Emma Hollar - Intern - Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë
"I read this book in high school and did an analysis on how the different social classes affected Heathcliff and Catherine's love story, who serve as the main characters. It was interesting to read about social classes during that time period, the Industrial Revolution in England. It's a great love story about two star crossed lovers!" - Emma
