Raleigh, NC (May 29, 2019) – Whiskey Kitchen has announced that it will be participating in The James Beard Foundation’s (JBF) Blended Burger Project™, a nationwide contest and challenge to make a "blended burger" by blending ground meat with finely chopped mushrooms to create a delicious, healthier, and more sustainable burger.

Whiskey Kitchen’s chef Kyle Teears has chosen to feature the “Blended Buck Burger” to showcase a healthier burger, which will be available through July 31, 2019. This special burger includes a venison and North Carolina mushroom patty, Port Salut mornay cheese, cherry tomato jam and crispy shallots on a brioche bun. The mushrooms are sourced locally from Carolina Mushroom Farm and make up one-quarter of the patty’s consistency.

Blending meat with mushrooms reduces calories, fat, and sodium while adding important nutrients like vitamin D, potassium, and B vitamins. A blended burger also brings more sustainable, plant-based items to menus allowing Americans to enjoy the taste and flavor of the burgers they love, knowing it's a healthier and more sustainable preparation.

Diners can vote and support Whiskey Kitchen’s participation in the Blended Burger Project™:

  • Visit https://www.jamesbeard.org/blendedburgerproject/vote to vote for the “Blended Buck Burger.” To cast your vote, search Whiskey Kitchen and click the heart icon in the lower left corner. Diners can vote once per day.

  • Visit Whiskey Kitchen until July 31, 2019 and ask for the “blended burger”

  • Post your burger photos to social media with the hashtag #blendedburgerproject to spread the word!

When the promotion concludes at 11:59pm EST on July 31st, 2019, the 25 entries that receive the most online votes will advance as finalists. A panel of food experts selected by the James Beard Foundation will determine 5 winners from the top 25 finalist entries with the most online votes. All voting and judging by the panel of experts will be based on the following equally weighted criteria: (1) culinary creativity, (2) best flavor profile and (3) presentation.
