Friends Of Tabletop: Meet Missy From Old North State Food Hall

Friends of Tabletop is a place where we share who we love working with. This can range from a client, influencer/blogger, or special someone who simply means a lot to the Tabletop Team. Colleagues and friends who we’ve met throughout our journey with Tabletop Media Group make us a part of who we are.

For our April Friends of Tabletop, meet Missy from Old North State Food Hall!

Tell us about Old North State Food Hall

America’s first roadside food hall opened its doors in August 2022. We have a unique collection of restaurants all under one roof, as well as the Longleaf Tavern, a former cigar humidor that’s a great spot for a cocktail or craft beer.

What makes Old North State Food Hall special?

All of our eateries are local family-owned businesses. Many of the menu items are created from recipes passed down through generations. The food hall offers a taste of cultures from around the globe and it’s located right here in Selma, NC!

What exciting things are happening this Spring/Summer at ONSFH?

We’re introducing a lot of new activities and programming to the food hall, including cornhole, trivia, and music bingo. Plus, we’re kicking off the Triangle’s first Beer Choir where people can gather and sing European style pub songs on select Sunday afternoons. We are also introducing Provisions Catering to bring the tastes of the food hall to your home or office setting. You can keep up with everything on our website and social pages.

What is your go to order at ONSFH?

My absolute favorite is Butter Chicken from Curry in a Hurry. The owner, Alaksha Surti, uses a family recipe passed down from her grandmother and it’s so good! I have to admit that I have a favorite at every vendor – from eggplant pizza at Luna Pizza Café to dumplings at Nai Thai! It’s always a tough decision where to eat because they are all so delicious.

If you could add any vendor to the food hall, what would it be?

We’re adding a new BBQ vendor soon and that will be welcome news for BBQ fans.  I’d love to see a mediterranean style concept – something with scrumptious salads and lighter tastes.

Bar order? If you don't drink, what's your coffee order?

In the Longleaf Tavern, we have a great collection of beers on tap, so depending on what food I order, I’ll go with a NC craft beer or something from our seasonal cocktail menu. For morning meetings, I’ll head to JoCo Coffee for a creamy latte.

What is one of your unpopular opinions?

Unpopular opinion? I keep advocating for pickleball courts behind the food hall. I’m the only one on our team obsessed with the sport!

Where is your favorite place to eat in North Carolina (besides the food hall, of course!)

I live in Cary so I love a night out in downtown Cary! I have two favorite spots for drinks – The Walk Up for cocktails and RBF Champagne Bar for a nice glass of wine and maybe a charcuterie board.  For dining, I crave the crispy rice lettuce wraps at SAAP and anything from Pro’s Epicurean.

Do you have a favorite story about how you got to where you are in your career?

I went to John Carroll University, a small liberal arts college in Cleveland, OH with Kevin Dougherty, the owner of our company. Several other team members at our small business and our spouses went there too. It’s like we never left our college campus. It’s great fun working with friends you’ve known for decades!

If you could redo one thing in regards to your career what would it be?

I try to have no regrets…I’ve learned something from every work experience – good and bad!
