The North Carolina SweetPotato Commission, Inc. Announces Month-Long “Fiesta de Camotes” Promotion this September

The North Carolina SweetPotato Commission, Inc. is pleased to announce a month-long celebration of sweet potatoes during September 2017 called “Fiesta de Camotes.” Translated to “Celebrating Sweet Potatoes,” Fiesta de Camotes will highlight Hispanic restaurants and bakeries throughout North Carolina featuring sweet potatoes in a special dish.
With 22 restaurants and bakeries participating, Fiesta de Camotes’ mission is to highlight the use of sweet potatoes in traditional Hispanic dishes as well as fusion dishes. Each restaurant or bakery will be menuing their special dish from September 1, 2017 to September 30, 2017. Patrons are encouraged to try these sweet potato dishes throughout September at one of the following locations:

Expect to find dishes like sweet potato poblano soup, sweet potato enchiladas, mole de camote and sweet potato tamales on menus this September. Patrons are encouraged to snap a photograph of their special sweet potato dish and tag #FiestaDeCamotes when posting to social media. All recipes will be located at the North Carolina SweetPotato Commission, Inc.’s website beginning in September.
This celebration is funded by a grant received by the North Carolina SweetPotato Commission, Inc. from the United States Department of Agriculture-Agriculture Marketing Service (USDA-AMS) Specialty Crop Block Grant Program.

The North Carolina SweetPotato Commission, Inc. is a nonprofit corporation made up of over 400 sweet potato growers along with the packers, processors and business associates that support them. The sole purpose of the commission is to increase sweet potato consumption through education, promotional activities, research and honorable horticultural practices among its producers. Thanks to the six sweet potato farmers that chartered the commission in 1961, the commission has supported its growers and maintained North Carolina as the No. 1 sweet potato producing state in the United States since 1971.
